In short

Nobody pays Apex except its clients. We do not install, sell or recommend products for a fee, and any connection to a party in your project is disclosed before an engagement is signed.

The policy

  1. No commission, ever. Apex accepts no commission, referral fee, introduction fee, rebate, discount or other consideration from any installer, contractor, manufacturer, distributor, financier or supplier, in any circumstances. Apex is paid by its clients and by its clients alone.
  2. We do not advise on contractors we work for. If Apex provides engineering services to an installation contractor or EPC, Apex will not advise a client on a tender, bid, design or dispute involving that contractor. Where that situation arises it will be disclosed and we will decline the instruction.
  3. Our contractor list is published. Every contractor Apex provides services to is named on this page and kept current, for complete transparency.
  4. Open disclosure in every report. Each report states any interest we hold relevant to its subject, or states that we hold none.
  5. Separation of roles. Dale Barnard is engaged as Chief Technology Officer of Axiom Novus, a Copenhagen-based solar engineering firm providing design, engineering and procurement services. Apex does not act on any asset, project or transaction in which Axiom Novus has been engaged, and Axiom Novus does not act on any that Apex is reviewing. Where a prospective instruction touches either, it is disclosed and declined under rule 2.

Contractors Apex provides engineering services to

None at present. Apex does not currently provide engineering services to any installation contractor or EPC. This page will be updated before any such engagement begins.

Why this is published

Most technical advice in the solar market comes from a party with an interest in the outcome. That is usually structural rather than dishonest, but it means a client has no way of telling good advice from a well-argued sales case, and an expert's evidence can be attacked on exactly this point.

Stating the rules in advance, and naming the relationships, is the only version of independence that can actually be checked. If you think something on this page is insufficient for your situation, say so and we will address it in writing before we start.

Tell us what you are trying to decide

Most engagements start with a short call about the asset, the transaction or the dispute, and the timetable. We will tell you what we would do, what it would cost, and whether you need us at all.
